Commercial and hospital works use scissors and booms; coastal wind and summer storms affect EWPs. 8 listed suppliers are based in Sunshine Coast or service Queensland.
What drives demand in Sunshine Coast
- Residential growth corridors
- Health precinct works
- Road and rail upgrades
- Coastal and hinterland builds
The Sunshine Coast combines residential growth, health and education projects, tourism, roadworks, landscaping and hinterland construction. Suppliers servicing Sunshine Coast commonly also cover Maroochydore, Caloundra, Nambour, Noosa.
Site conditions in Sunshine Coast
Coastal sands, wetlands and hinterland ranges. Specify the exact suburb because coastal and hinterland travel times, access and ground conditions vary considerably.
Wet-season rain and cyclone preparations can halt northern earthworks; plan dewatering, tie-downs and longer mobilisation windows.

Brief the supplier properly
Work out working height and outreach
Working height is roughly platform height plus 2 metres. If you must reach over a roof edge, awning or plant, you need a boom with enough outreach—not just height.
Check the floor and ground
Suspended slabs, mezzanines and pavers have load limits. Ask for the machine's wheel or point load and compare it with engineering advice.
Measure doorways and ramps
Stowed width, height and weight decide whether a machine can get in. Lifts, ramps and door openings are common blockers indoors.
Plan rescue and exclusion zones
Have a rescue plan for a stranded or injured operator and set up exclusion zones below the platform, particularly near pedestrians.
For Sunshine Coast specifically, tell the supplier the exact site address so they can confirm the depot the machine will come from, the travel or float charge and any QLD permit needs.
Licences and rules in QLD
- Boom-type EWPs with a boom length of 11 metres or more require a WP High Risk Work Licence.
- Scissor lifts, vertical lifts and booms under 11 metres do not need an HRWL, but operators must be trained and familiar with the model; an EWPA Yellow Card is widely requested on commercial sites.
- Harnesses and lanyards attached to the anchor point are required in boom lifts. EWPs must have current annual inspections, and 10-year major inspections for booms.
- WHS regulator for Sunshine Coast: Workplace Health and Safety Queensland. Oversize transport: Oversize and overmass movements are permitted through the NHVR, with Department of Transport and Main Roads consent on state roads.
What drives the cost in Sunshine Coast
